Over the past four weeks, in partnership with The Creators Project, Animal Collective Radio has delivered a consistent stream of eclectic, eye-opening music from their own crates, and from the collections of some talented friends such as Black Dice, Haunted Graffiti, Atlas Sound, and Pantha du Prince. It’s all been leading up to the release of their new album Centipede Hz, the band’s first record since their acclaimed 2009 release Merriweather Post Pavilion.
The final show, which premiered last night, featured a mix from Geologist inspired by music the band gave to their engineer ahead of mixing Centipede Hz, as well as a full stream of the new album itself. Abby Portner created a custom set of psychedelic visuals for each song on the album, adding dimensions to the experience of the album.
You can stream the entire album here right now.
Geologist recently described to us how they created an abstract aesthetic of radio which manifested itself in the warbly, robotic utterances of, “You are now listening to Centipede Radio,” and the like, heard all over the weekly Transmissions hosted by the band each Sunday. If you missed any of those shows, you can hear each one below.
While Animal Collective Radio was running, fans downloaded a package of the band’s radio sounds and created their own mixes to share on Animal Collective Radio. You can hear these hours upon hours of music here. Before the release of the album, five random mix contributors will be selected and each will receive a vinyl test pressing of Centipede Hz. There’s still time to create and upload your own mix. Check out the detailed instructions here.
Stay tuned for perspectives from Animal Collective, some of our favorite fan mixes, and lots more!
