Take A Twisted Stroll Through '50s Suburbia In Cyriak's Latest Animation

The artist says 'Malfunction' came from "the virtual maggots that feast on rotting film footage." Sounds lovely, right?

The new video from animation guru Cyriak—known for past collaborations with Flying Lotus and Bonobo, among others—looks at first like a pleasant walk through Smalltown, USA. Closer inspection, however, reveals that Levittown is actually home to a giant, face-warped monster who morphes the surrounding trees, cars, and people into similarly surreal—yet jaunty—face-warped creatures.

The simple stroll repeats three times, each repetition bringing more of the creature's upbeat chaos into the vintage footage. The ensuing dance party eventually gets so out of control that the perpetually warping characters even start dancing on the black border framing the video.

"I've no idea what this video is," reads the description below the video, accurately titled Malfunction. "It crawled out from some dark corner of my computer after evolving from the virtual maggots that feast on rotting film footage." Cyriak's description of his own footage is a bit graphic, but sounds pretty accurate to us. Maybe not, though—weird as that face beast is, we think it's kind of cute.
