Spike Jonze “I’m here” screening recap

3:22pm Spike Jonze I’m Here screening

The room was packed for the first film screening of the day at the Creators Project NYC launch event. The crowd hummed with anticipation for Spike Jonze’s short film I’m Here, which drew a standing-room-only crowd. The 30-minute flick is a heartwarming, if slightly bizarre, tragic love story…with robots. Taking place in the not-too-distant future, Jonze gives us a reality much like our own, except that in this alternate universe robots are integrated into everyday society. We follow a sensitive, melancholy boy-bot as he falls in love with a female droid and goes through the process of finding himself (and, ultimately, losing himself) in their romance. In typical Jonze style, the visuals are lush and sensual, the soundtrack is killer, and although the story is sweet, there are definite dark undertones. The screening was followed up by an spirited live performance from ASKA, who scored the film. See the gallery above for the photos…- Julia Kaganskiy
