The Interactive Video Projections Of Team Iregular

Meet the group that will have you waving your arms wildly, screaming at buildings, and spying on your neighbors.

Screens large and small are now an irrevocable part of daily life, and we’re always finding new ways to engage with these glittering surfaces. The need to interact with visualizations of all sorts has become a deep-seated impulse, and creative team Iregular satisfies it with their elegant and engaging installations.

CONTROL NO CONTROL

At this year’s Igloofest, an electronic music festival in Montreal, Iregular exhibited CONTROL NO CONTROL, an installation with four touch screens that allows passersby to control light patterns in synchronization with the live performances occurring on stage.

FULL MOON

Unveiled at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, also in Montreal, Full Moon is an animated projection that reacts to sounds it hears yelled through a megaphone across the street, encouraging passersby to howl at the top of their lungs.

A Shadow at the Window

Possibly their most interactive piece, A Shadow at the Window rewards voyeuristic tendencies by allowing you to look into people’s homes. A residential building has different numbers projected onto each of its windows, along with instructions to text any apartment number to a specified phone number. Once you pick an apartment and send that text, whatever is happening in that apartment is projected onto the entire building. Text at just the right time and you’ll catch somebody in the shower.
