The Year In... Legos

The Guardian’s open call for news stories recreated in Legos are #winning.

Charlie Sheen by Qantrell.

In the art and tech world, 2011 has been all about hacking the Kinect, 3D printing, using new technologies to keep music videos relevant, copyright in the digital age and the various new emerging platforms for digital art. But we can’t forget all the more serious or mainstream news events that occurred this year, from the riots in Egypt and the OWS movement, to the Royal Wedding and the explosion of Charlie Sheen to the deaths of Osama bin Laden and Steve Jobs.

Since these events are technically now “old news”, we love that The Guardian is making them new again by asking people to contribute their images and creative spin on the ever predictable “Year In Photo” series. The stitch? All photos must be recreated in Legos… we can imagine an image commemorating (celebrating?) the death of Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il will be made shortly. Here’s a sample of some of the best Lego-fied events, if you’ve got some spare bricks on your hands, submit your own here.
