Tiny Stop-Motion Short Takes You To Morocco And Back

Featuring the use of 200 3D-printed miniatures, "Sparkling Water Story" is a globetrotting, heartwarming 1/150 scale quest.

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players," takes on a new meaning when the world in question fits neatly inside a plastic water bottle.

AID-DCC, the animators behind this ultra-adorable stop-motion campaign are back with the newest addition to their bottle-sized stop-motion series: Sparkling Water Story, the second short film in their campaign for Kirin's new soft drink line, "SEKAI no KITCHEN kara," tells the tale of an intrepid trip through Morocco to encounter "mother's knowledge,"— and features the use of over 200 invididual miniatures.

In sizes of 1/48, 1/35, and 1/150 scale, all "meticulously built with 3D printers," the film juxtaposes its protagonist's gallumping travels against a part-stop-motion, part-live-action backdrop generated on a smartphone.

Two behind-the-scenes featurettes further explain the making-of process for Sparkling Water Story. Clearly a labor of love— six individual miniatures were required per single second of storytelling— this is Svankmajer-esque stop motion mastery at its most universally endearing (and staggeringly down-scaled).

In addition to Sparkling Water Story, AID-DCC have also offered up a number of Vines that show their adorable miniatures in motion. Below, a legion of miniatures from Sparkling Water Story, and segments from their forthcoming films:
