Nicola Felaco: My name is Nicola Felaco. I was born in Aversa, but have lived almost all of my life in Naples. As the son of a typographer, I was fed with ink and lead typefaces, but my first love was paint. Painting also influenced my studies at the Institute of Art where I specialized in conservation and the restoration of cultural heritage. After I finished studying in 2005 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, I was featured in an Expo of Performative Art at the Museo della Permanente in Milan.Since the days of 56k modems, I have been passionate about web design and I now work as art director at a web agency for major international brands such as Ferrari, Ducati, Abarth, Moleskine, Alitalia, Lotus, Maybach, and more.Furthermore, I'm pursuing personal projects through my website where I publish my illustrations. It's my biggest passion now!
What kind of hardware to you use?
First of all I use my laptop—I have a MacBook Pro 8GB ram (even if it isn't enough), and a new arrival Wacom Intuos 5 that isn't bad! I inevitably have good headphones, coffee, and a Pepsi dispenser!
What kind of software do you use?
Right now I live on Photoshop and Illustrator, but I wish I would have more time for Processing and OSCulator.
What piece of equipment can you simply not live without?
I can't do without my iPhone, but my old Moleskine does its dirty work!
If money were no object, how would you change your current set up?
I would rent an open space to create an artistic collective, work on my suspended projects, realize and/or take part in workshops and worldwide exhibitions.
Is there any piece of technology that inspired you to take the path you did?
Videotapes! I liked to play with my first and only VCR where I composed video made by registering/capturing frames at random.
What is your favorite piece of technology from your childhood?
My dear first console, Atari 2600. It visualized colored pixels and produced 8-bit disturbances… it was very realistic!
What fantasy piece of technology would you like to see invented?
Good question. I would like to make some people happy with teleportation, but before I do that, I have to invent a remote control system for space-time.
