UVA Are Redesigning The Main Stage At Coachella 2011
Tomorrow things will just be getting started at Coachella, where we’ll be enhancing the entire grounds with never-before-seen installations from The Studio and reinterpreting what the festival experience is and can be.
Returning Creators United Visual Artists (UVA) are a multi-disciplinary collective out of the UK who specialize in manipulating the medium of light. Using projection, LEDs, and bespoke software, their immersive and responsive work is always nothing short of awe-inspiring, and their Coachella stage promises to be no exception. Because they have experience designing tour visuals for renowned bands like Massive Attack, U2, UNKLE, and The Chemical Brothers, working on a full-scale stage design for Coachella was a natural extension of their previous projects.
The stage was conceived as both a platform for performance and as a standalone light and sound sculpture with experimental music provided by fellow Creator Mira Calix. UVA will program distinctive visual identities to accompany the live sets of headlining bands throughout the festival. The entire project is powered by Intel processors and a new, soon-to-be-released graphics processing chip.
Check out the trailer above for a glimpse at what they have in store and stay tuned for more live updates from Coachella over the course of the next few days.
