Viral Style: IRL "Clueless" Wardrobe Technology, eBae, and Social Media Model Casting

The future of fashion is here!

FUTURISTIC KICKS OF THE WEEK

Fresh off the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, designer Rick Owens has teamed up with Adidas on a cutting-edge new footwear line for Spring/Summer 2015.  Incorporating the tricked-out Springblade design as a base, Owens has created the Blade Runner and Blade High, along with the Superstar Boot. These performancewear styles allow for light and ultra-speedy movement while racking up the street cred points, shaded in minimal tones of black and white.

SOCIAL-MEDIA SOURCED CAMPAIGN OF THE WEEK

Here’s one for the fashion fans – Marc by Marc Jacobs has just revealed the new faces of its A/W14 campaign, sourced entirely from their social media followers. The brand recently launched a campaign on Twitter and Instagram, inviting wannabe models to submit pictures of themselves tagged #CastMeMarc. With over 70,000 entries submitted, it’s fair to say the project has been a success (big up to the MBMJ marketing team), and nine fans have now been selected. Shot by David Sims, the campaign features photographer Martin Hernandez from Moscow and blue-haired Nina Ricci from Serbia.

ORGANIC x TECH TEXTILES OF THE WEEK

Exploring the idea of smart fabrics with a conceptual twist, recent Royal College of Art graduate Cindy Strobach has developed an innovative form of textiles with built-in electronic circuits. Disguised in plastic shells, these ‘encrypted complexities’ can create electricity-powered prints. As part of Cindy’s Electro Colour series, an everyday speaker and toaster conduct water electrolysis, changing the pH levels in the H20 to manipulate red cabbage dyes (which work as a pH indicator) and colour silk fabrics.

DIY RETAIL DESTINATION OF THE WEEK

If you wanna update your look but don’t have the bones to get anything decent, look no further than brand new retail concept ebaE. Examining the relationship between e-commerce and the pressures of fast fashion in today’s global online age, the brand offer a range of apparel and accessories that are both fun yet easily affordable (and they’re even sustainably sourced). It’s your one-stop shop next time you fancy getting your hands on a 3 finger emoji embroidered baseball cap or some fake Gucci sandals.

SOCIAL MEDIA-POWERED RETAIL EXPERIMENT OF THE WEEK

And moving on from that, if your Klout score is higher than your bank balance, check out Nokia Lumia 630’s #100aires pop-up at East London’s Old Truman Brewery this week, where attendees have the opportunity to buy some exclusive one-off artwork or tricked-out tech products using nothing more than social currency. Let’s hope you’ve been pulling some decent re-tweets recently…

90’S TEEN DREAM SOFTWARE OF THE WEEK

Hey girl, remember Clueless? Yeah, you were all over that vibe growing up – or if nothing else, you remember that scene where Cher Horowitz plans her outfit using a (then) cutting-edge wardrobe program. Today, you can relive those teen memories with new styling software called MeModel with Metail, which allows you to virtually try out different clothes using digital models. Simply input your height, weight and chest size to create a 2D figure to try styles out on – you can even tweak the model into a basic likeness of yourself. It’s said that high street brand Warehouse intend to roll out this functionality in the future.
