AUGMENTED REALITYWEAR OF THE WEEK

Image via
Remember when augmented reality came out? Everyone got mad excited at for the first few months, but then it kind of trailed off as everyone realised no one really used those QR codes except brand packaging or tryhard creative types with business cards (Cassette Playa being one notable exception at LFW A/W11). However, Polish fashion label DataAura is looking to change that perception, creating dresses with augmented reality prints. The jury's out on whether or not they're actually AR-enabled, but hey, they look good. Get a piece of the action on the Mybaze e-store.

MODEL VIDEO GAME CAMEO OF THE WEEK

Man, are we psyched for the new installment of the Grand Theft Auto series. Gunz, gurlz, carnage and smashing s̶t̶u̶f̶f̶everything up—what more do you want in a video game? Well, turns out the addition of one of the hottest models in the world can be no bad thing. Cara Delevingne revealed via Instagram that she’ll be making a star camero as one of the radio DJs (but just remember that Karl Lagerfeld did it first yo).

BAR CULTURE TECH OF THE WEEK

Yo, it's payday Friday—so nearly time to sack off work and hit the bar! It won't be too long until the whole experience gets even better. A range of lifestyle tech is currently in the works to enhance drinking culture on your nights out. Bored of waiting for a bartender? Pour My Beer allows customers to pour their own beer or wine if they're wearing a RFID bracelet to calculate what they owe on the tab. Wanna play DJ? The TouchTunes app allows you to control the jukebox. Finally, if you hate watery drinks, the Cirrus Ice Ball Press shapes ice into spheres to stop it from melting too quickly.

BIOLUMINESCENT PET OF THE WEEK

If, like us, you grew up with the whole Tamagotchi/Furby thang, get ready for the next stage in artificial pet toys. Yonder Biology have developed Dino Pet, a real plant-based life form that uses photosynthesis by day to glow brilliantly at night —all in a cute dinosaur-shaped package. Supposedly they're meant to encourage kids to get interested in biology, but tbh we're more down with the idea of a pet that will actually still be alive when you get home from school… RIP Tamo :( Check out the project's Kickstarter page for more.

SIGHT AWARENESS MOBILE APP OF THE WEEK

A mobile app has been developed that helps visually impaired people become more aware of their surroundings. The joint effort of Singapore telecommunications company

StarHub

 and developers

TribalDDB

, the MySmartEye app takes photographs and describes them to the user via the built-in voiceover feature in a micro-volunteering programme (with each volunteer participant being logged in through their respective Facebook accounts to ensure credibility). The app user can also check feedback on the shot using gesture and motion prompts.
