Viral Style: Makeup That Drives Drones And A Bra That Tweets

A weekly roundup of what's happening at the intersection of tech and fashion.

A weekly roundup of what's happening at the intersection of tech and fashion.

DRONE-CONTROLLING BEAUTY TECH OF THE WEEK

Gurl please, you may think you're lookin' all that - but can your makeup drive drones or open doors automatically? Nah, didn't think so. The amazing Beauty Technology project from Brazilian computer scientist Katia Vega combines standard products like false lashes, nails, shadow, and eyeliner with conductive technology and wireless tags, enabling the wearer to control gadgets/drones with a simple touch or wink. Cute huh? The eye makeup models come equipped with sensors to wirelessly power small motors via radio waves, while the fake nails contain magnets, conductive polish or Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tags to help them carry out various tasks. Kinda makes all your Superdrug makeup stuff look sad tho…

FUTURISTIC FASHION CAMPAIGN OF THE WEEK

What happens when high-end fashion pieces get shoved on a spaceship and beamed 1000 years into the future? Chanel's new campaign, basically, created by Karl Lagerfeld to showcase styles from the brand's folky futuristic Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. Okay, so maybe they're not actually taken in the future (as far as we know), but we're really digging that floating zero-gravity vibe.

EXPERIMENTAL TOUCHSCREEN OF THE WEEK

We've spoken before about the kinds of weird and wonderful stuff coming out of the Disney Research lab in America, so get ready for this - those clever tech-heads have created a touchscreen set-up enabling the user to actually feel the visuals being shown. Using an algorithm, the technology uses electro-vibrations to physically simulate 3D geometry (bumps, cracks, textures etc), tricking us into thinking we're experiencing the real deal. The project is still in experimental stages right now, but just imagine how sick the next GTA game would be if you could physically feel of the carnage you're causing…

BIONIC HUMANOID OF THE WEEK

For those of you who grew up watching Terminator, get ready to get freaked out - the world's first ever bionic man has finally been developed. Not only can he walk and talk, 'Frank' (i.e. 'Frankenstein') also comes complete with a functioning circulatory system and beating heart. Designed by Dr Bertolt Meyer from the University of Zurich, Frank was built at Shadow Robot in London and is currently on display at Washington's Smithsonian Museum. Six foot tall, he is formed from donated (artificial) body parts, has 200 processors, and over a million touch-sensitive sensors covering his body.Though Dr. Meyer has claimed that his project wasn't made to replace humans, we found it slightly creepy that Frank's face was made as a replica of his…

#MUST-HAVE TRAINER OF THE WEEK

Though it might be hard to see beyond the rain and cold of autumn right now, it's never too early to start planning some styling ideas for next season - or even further into the future. This week, we're all about Y-3's Spring/Summer 2014 range, which includes a digital noise-inspired footwear collaboration with iconic art director Peter Saville. Taking on a slick space age aesthetic, sporty trainers take on metallic foils, ombre abstractions and material mixes - what's not to love?

SOCIAL MEDIA-ENABLED UNDERWEAR OF THE WEEK

Hey ladies, is your bra doing enough for you? Sure, you wanna be supported, and looking good is important – but if your undergarms aren’t keeping you in touch with the online world, we just don’t want to know…

However, OgilvyOne Athens has answered your prayers by developing a unique tech-enabled bra that tweets every time it’s unhooked. Okay, so maybe this kind of product isn’t really at the top of our #must-have list, but it’s all in the name of a good cause, promoting breast cancer awareness for Nestle Fitness – check out the campaign’s website to get access to the social bra’s Twitter account.
