RESORT 2014 COLLECTION OF THE WEEK

Gotta love fashion—with so many new seasons cropping up now, it can be hard to keep up. In our experience designers and PRs generally have a default mood of "stressed out", but we can never remember if it's because they're working on their couture/SS/AW pre-fall or maybe just an off-season capsule line. Anyway, having checked our fashion calender we can confirm we’re currently in Spring/Summer 13, but brands are already readying their Pre-Spring or Resort collections for next year—including Opening Ceremony, who showed their Resort 2014 line at New York’s Chelsea Piers this week (in line with the cruise vibe). Resort collections usually retail pretty well and designers have recently taken them as an opportunity to flex their tumblr muscles (who can forget last years Chanel creepers?) and we've got a feeling Opening Ceremony's foil shoes are gonna be subjected to some pretty heavy reblogging over the next year or so.

MUST HAVE ITEM OF THE WEEK

The end of the academic year inevitably marks a mass exodus back to the provinces where thousands of students are subjected to having to explain their new piercings to their parents and concealing their newly adopted smoking habit. Happily though, they also mark end of year and graduate shows for arts and fashion faculties. We've cast our eyes over this year's selection and frankly we've been mesmerised by these light-up trainers from Central Saint Martins graduate Samuel Yang ever since. Sporty, futuristic, and more than effective at helping you avoid puddles—someone invest in this guy, we need a pair!

CONTACT LENSES OF THE WEEK

Do you look at Google Glass and feel like the future might finally have arrived? If yes, then we've got news for you—developers are now currently working on an electronic contact lenses that come equipped with a visual display. Headed by chemical engineer Jang-Ung Park, the group are aiming to create lenses that combine all the features of a wearable computer with a subtle, transparent medium. It's as clever as it is creepy.

INVISIBILITY DEVICES OF THE WEEK

Talking of things which are as clever as they are creepy, it seems everyone’s dream superpower of choice is getting closer—invisibility is finally becoming a reality. Scientists in Singapore and China have managed to create a cloaking device from thin sheets of glass, which has successfully made animals disappear—and in America, scientists John and Benjamin Howell have successfully worked out ways to "cloak" large objects using constructions of mirrors.

WEARABLE PET TECH OF THE WEEK

If you’re someone who’s super into organising and documenting your life via tech (Nike+ Fuelband users, stand up), then why not get your pet in on the act too? Ridogulous Labs have developed a collar that combines with a smartphone app to keep track of your dog’s diet, activities, location, and obedience training—right down to its, er, social calendar. There’s even a voice command option, as well as interactive games to work on its cognitive ability…!

REMOTE-CONTROLLED INSECT OF THE WEEK

OK, so when we first heard about this we thought it was a joke. But no, it’s actually happening—a company called Backyard Brains has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund mass-produced remote-controlled cockroaches. Linked with your phone via Bluetooth and a smartphone app, a battery-controlled backpack sends electrical pulses down a cockroach’s antenna to control its movement. Why? Well, apparently it's being marketed as an "educational tool," the RoboRoach project is all about "NeuroRevolution". Is this the future or the end of the world? Answers on a postcard please.
