Viral Style: Rapper Inspired Weather Updates And The Contact Lenses Of The Future

Just hold on Friday, we're going home.

A weekly roundup of what's happening at the intersection of tech and fashion.

RAPPER-ENDORSED WEATHER SITE OF THE WEEK

Love him or hate him, you can't help but be impressed at Drake's seemingly never-ending list of talents--and who knew that forecasting the weather was one of them? No lie, simply head over to DrakeWeather.com to find out if the temperature's getting high or low on the barometer in your area. Inspired by the artwork from Drizzy's Nothing Was the Same album, you can see the Canadian rapper's head against sunny skies, cloudy skies, rainy skies… the list just goes on. There should be a Drizzly pun in there somewhere right?

SMART CONTACT LENSES OF THE WEEK

Tech-enabled contact lenses have been surfacing a lot in the news recently (check out last week's feature on iOptik's virtual design)--now we've heard that Google is getting in on the act too. The Internet behemoth is currently working on a smart lens aimed at people with diabetes, featuring the capacity to monitor blood sugar levels. Each tiny gadget comes complete with circuitry that can measure the wearer's glucose levels, using the tear-lubricated surface of the eye--and could even light up miniature LEDs to communicate when a reading needs to be addressed. Looks like Glass was only the beginning…what's next, smartphone-linked pacemakers?

#MUSTHAVE OF THE WEEK

This week's #MUSTHAVE takes the form of a super-slick watch design--and before you go off on one with the whole 'no one wears watches any more' deal, just wait till you see it. Created by luxury Swiss accessories label De Bethune, the Dream Watch 5 expresses a futuristic vibe with a mirror-polished titanium case, cut-out panel, and cabochon-cut ruby embellishment. The technical bit sees a DB 2144 movement complete with rotating moonphrase complication. The piece will set you back a bit though, to the tune of around $165,000.

WEARABLE CAMERAS OF THE WEEK

This week, we're all about the new trends emerging in wearable camera accessories--simply snap on and you're away (without that pesky effort of having to press a button).

First up, it's the meMINI, a Wi-Fi-enabled device complete with a recall capacity that uses looping footage to allow users to save their fave moments in hi-def--even if they've already taken place. You can connect the camera to an app for full control over each video, and it attaches on nice and easy to clothing using magnetic fastenings.

Next it's the Autographer, which can be worn around the neck or clipped on. Created around the concept of capturing 'real life' moments, the camera works autonomously, using sensors that detect changes in motion, light, direction, color, and temperature to snap an interesting shot whenever the potential arises. There's no viewfinder or preview screen either, so you'll just have to trust in the gadget to keep a good record of whatever crazy stuff you get up to when you're out and about--although you can sync it with your smartphone to view and edit shots.

TRICKED-OUT SPORTSWEAR OF THE WEEK

We're big fans of Hood by Air's super-luxe sportswear designs, so felt appropriately psyched to hear word of their new Chinese New Year-themed capsule collection in celebration of next weeks holiday. Saturated in the lucky color red, not only are these garms suitably stylish--the lookbook is also guaranteed to get your reblog count up on Tumblr. Oh yeah, make sure to check out the label's brand new website too.
