The digital artist remixes the spinach-loving cartoon.

In “Free,” an exhibit that opened last night at the New Museum, creator Takeshi Murata has utilized 3D modeling program Cinema 4D to explore the notion of knockoffs and the handling of public figures’ images using the popular cartoon character, Popeye. Along with work by 23 other multi-media artists, “Free” examines the broadened experiences and new access to free information as well as the limitations caused by the internet’s bounty of information.
