As a prominent think tank with a 50-year history, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has long dedicated itself to the pursuit for a better planet. Next on its list is the tricky world of light fixtures.With the unveiling of their new headquarters, CSIS revealed a gorgeous gravity-defying centerpiece that channels its global lean. Called the CSIS Global Data Chandelier, this one-of-a-kind exhibition piece is a sight to behold. In addition to dazzling viewers, the installation also acts as a map and low-res display for illustrating global data like GDP growth rate (calculated via UN data), renewable water resources, and energy consumption.The design, spearheaded by art and tech studio Sosolimited, in conjunction with Hypersonic Engineering & Design, Plebian Design, and Chris Parlato, dangles from the second-story ceiling of the think tank’s new state-of-the-art headquarters.The elegance of its 425 hanging pendants……is amplified by the fluctuating lights that are programmed to illustrate important data sets.The original concept had the chandelier paired with a variety of screens that would elaborate upon its light-coded transmissions and which could be plugged in with intel from current events.The final product……looks to be a good deal less elaborate than its multi-colored conceptual stage……but nonetheless captures the awe and wonder expected from a new world outlook.If you’d prefer to learn about the project in frames, look below.CSIS Global Data Chandelier from Sosolimited.All media is property of CSIS and/or Sosolimited and Hypersonic Engineering & Design.Below, check out our interview with Sosolimited:
