Harris Cole’s “Feel Like Loving You Today” Music Video is for the Lover and the Loner

Taking classic American jazz from Donald Byrd and turning it on its head.

Harris Cole is the young, Chicago suburb dwelling bedroom producer with a knack for creating a saccharine chemistry between electronic, jazz, and soul. Although we previously introduced you to his purring productions, it appears the time in between has allowed a brilliant musical maturation.

His newest submission is "Feel Like Loving You", a song edit comprised of "I Feel Like Loving You Today" by the late American jazz musician, Donald Byrd. Cole takes the sultry, crooning love song to a darker depth of reality by interplaying love and loneliness.

The music video shows a bathrobe-clad middle-aged man setting up a sketchily outdated video camera in a flamingo pink-tinted hotel room. With an uncomfortably wide grin, he sits on the bed, makes a phone call and begins waiting for his (quite costly) damsel. As the lyrics serenade sweetly, the video juxtaposes the ballad with an uneasy sexual encounter, one the female seems completely hardened to.

"I felt like this song is very characteristic of a specific mood, one that's perfect for visuals," says Cole. "Kevin, the director, really ran with the song and turned the vision into a reality."

Between the sexually satisfied loner and the well-paid, vengeful hooker, it's hard to say who the real winner is in the end. We'll let you be the judge.
