6° of SoundCloud: How We Found Light Year

Follow us down the SoundCloud rabbit hole.

SoundCloud is a revolutionary social platform that has allowed producers from all over the world to share their music, and it's given rise to some of the best musicians out today. As a result, it's also a rabbithole, a journey of discovery waiting to happen every time you press that orange play button. This is how we traverse the world of SoundCloud to find new cool stuff.

1. Warp Records [label]

The Connection: We came to the Warp Records Soundcloud page while listening "Why Ya Why" by Jamie Lidell. The single is one of Warp's recent releases.

2. Bleep.com [download store]

The Connection: Warp Records only had one "favorite" and it was Hudson Mohawke - "Snap Dragon." The song was a Bleep.com exclusive on their SoundCloud page.

3.Kaballikevo [user]

The Connection: "Snap Dragon" was used in 10 sets by other artists/users. One of the sets was titled "Fuck." Obviously we went straight to that one. "Fuck" was put together by a user named Kaballikevo.

4. Coyote Kisses [artist]

The Connection: Kaballikevo only follows two accounts. One of them was Scottish label LuckyMe, who we're pretty familiar with, so we decided to go with Coyote Kisses because we like to take risks here at THUMP.

5. Flume [artist]

The Connection: Flume - "Left Alone feat. Chet Faker (Ta-Ku Remix)" was favorited by Coyote Kisses seven days ago. We know Flume–I mean, he's an Aussie best-seller–so we clicked on his page to see what he has been up to recently.

6. Light Year [artist]

The Connection: Light Year - "Moderation (Extended Mix)" was in Flume's favorites. It rang a bell, so we checked it out. And here we are.
