Artist Turns Google Maps Into Colorful Abstractions

Kim Asendorf's Maps transforms the world into glitchy psychedelia.

Berlin-based artist Kim Asendorf has created an abstract, colorful, and entirely impractical take on Google Maps. Using the Google Maps API every time a user refreshes the page they're met with a strange new map of the earth, employing glitch aesthetics so that navigating your way around becomes almost impossible.

These "Google Maps Paintings" transform the world so sometimes countries have no borders or the borders will be bright green, other times only certain infrastructures are highlighted like rivers or roads.
