After successful collaborations with hip clothing labels Neighborhood and Stüssy, Potato Head is ready to launch a collection of shirts as part of their collab with Japanese label Wacko Maria. They're hosting two parties for the launch, one in Potato Head Jakarta on Friday and another one at Potato Head Beach Club Bali on Saturday. Stimulate all your senses this Saturday at an illustration exhibition in Bandung. SENSE.SITIVE will be showing works from local artists such as Agra Watya, Masyabayas, Dannus Darmawan, and Dwi Anita, Lambang and more. If you can't make it, don't sweat. Today is my parents’ 27th wedding anniversary. My mother reminded me this morning as I headed to work. Stories she used to tell me about the old days came back to mind—they met at a university in Yogyakarta, dated on and off for six years before my father got his act together and proposed. They married on January 19, 1991. On the drive to work I thought, what was going on in 1991?

Now, I don’t think my parents saw Paris Is Burning or My Own Private Idaho. But I can imagine them buying tickets to the fifth sequel of the popular drama series Catatan Si Boy. The whole series follows Boy, the son of an ultra rich Indonesian family trying to figure his life out in the height of the New Order era. The series features Indonesia’s most iconic actors like Didi Petet, Meriam Bellina, Sophia Latjuba and Onky Alexander. That year they also got a new TV station, TPI, the third privately owned TV station in the country. I’m not sure if they had a TV set though.

In their late 20s, my parents were too old for Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, but I know they listened to Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. But then again, my oldest brother was born in October, so I could also assume that my parents were too busy to catch up with music, film, or pop culture moments in 1991.
