If you’ve ever dreamt of digging a hole to China, you might want to check out this earth-piercing walkie-talkie installation. Scream Through Earth is a playful, site-specific project that creates a line of communication between Los Angeles and Hong Kong by pairing a speaker and a microphone on either sides of the earth with a very convincing tin can connection. Below, in a short video feature for the project, you can watch groups of pedestrians in China chat with people on Venice Beach. The project was put together by an international design studio called The Kids. This group of artists and designers used bamboo, caution tape, and crumbling cement to create the illusion of a direct pipeline running all the way through the center of the earth. See it in action below:The installation was up for just a couple of hours, but it garnered enough attention that the good folks at The Kids hope to create a permanent installation connecting Berlin to Nouméa (New-Caledonia). The Kids has launched a crowd support campaign that you can check out, here. You can see more of their work on their website.Related:This Menstrual Cup Pairs Up With Your Apple DevicesNew York's Last Phone Booth Bids a Defiant AdieuBlock Cell Phone Signals With This Customized Battle Tan
