When we last left off, renowned French artist and social practitioner JR was compositing a 6,500-square-foot photo as a collaboration with the New York City Ballet's Art Series initiative.

The piece was so successful that the artist stuck around: on April 29, 2014, the opening night of the ballet's 2014 Spring Season, JR will be unveiling an eight-minute theatrical piéce d'occasion, featuring over forty dancers from the company, an original score by Woodkid, and Memphis jookin' virtuoso, Lil Buck.

The piece will run for six consecutive evenings through May 4, and marks the artist's debut as a theatrical director.

While JR has been hard at work creating the piece, he's also been relentlessly documenting its evolution via Instagram. Below, a few selections from the ever-growing image stream, featuring epic lifts, grand jetes, and even special guest appearances from Madge and DeNiro

Tickets for JR's theatrical premiere are currently on sale here. Follow the globetrotting artist on Instagram for more behind-the-scenes action.
