Dive Inside The Alien Caverns Of A 3D Fractal Planet

Julius Horsthuis' new film "Lingua Naturæ" imagines a cool dive inside a fractalized cavern.

Lingua Naturæ from Julius Horsthuis on Vimeo.

From 3D animator Julius Horsthuis, the creator of Geologic Time, Lingua Naturæ is an immersive journey into the center of a fractalized, otherworldly geosphere. With its subtle, animated weather effects, and complex, undulating topographies, the gorgeous short imagines a world wherein nature is as simple as a repeating data set. Rendered in Mandelbulb 3D with "additional techniques" animated in 3DS MAX, the film reminds us every bit as much of the discrete, mathematical beauties of patternmaking as it does our favorite levels in Halo— colorful, cavernous, and absolutely alien.
