GIF-Walk On the Wild Side | GIF Six-Pack

GIF artists explore the oldest form on cinema on this weeks Six-Pack.

The walking cycle is a classic format for filmmakers, animators, and GIF-makers, reaching back to very first movie, Eadweard Muybridge's Horse in Motion (1878). The simple concept of a character walking forward has never gotten old, even as it's been replicated thousands of times in a variety of media. There's so much information embedded in a character's walking cycle, from their rhythm and confidence to simply the way they look and dress, that artists have found ways to make it their own for well over a century.

On this, the first week of jacket-optional weather in New York City, we celebrate the beginning of strolling season with walking cycles from six of our favorite GIF artists, including Zolloc, Traceloops, and John McLaughlin. See how the same animation can look so vastly different in these artists' hands.
