Nine months ago, Intel kicked off the Make It Wearable (MIW) Challenge with the goal of inspiring the next big idea in wearables. Part-competition, part-entrepreneurial mentorship program, the challenge attracted thousands of global participants. Since then, 10 teams of young entrepreneurs and developers have been selected to have their limits tested as they push the boundaries of their imaginations—and of wearable technology. Through the end of October, The Creators Project will introduce the teams of finalists in the running for the $500,000 Make It Wearable prize. Last Monday, we brought you Snowcookie, the winter sports wearable for ski training. Today, we bring you Arc Pendant.

Project name: Arc Pendant

Location: United Kingdom

Team Captain: Tom Shrive

Other Members: James Price, Mark Siddorn, Samuel Tassell

Project description: Arc Pendant is a discrete necklace that guides you using directional vibrations, understands voice commands and monitors your body. After the team, comprised of Tom Shrive, James Price, Mark Siddorn, Samuel Tassell recognized a lack of "realtime" wearable technology, they decided to fill that gap with a smart pendant. Originally, the Arc Pendant's principal function was for navigation, providing haptic feedback that would guide wearers to their destinations. Fast forward through multiple iterations of the device, and the Arc Pendant uses the Intel Edison module to create an open-platform, speech-controlled device that provides users with sensory feedback as well as biometric data. The result is a wearable as stylish as it is functional.
