It might sound unlikely, but big name fashion brands are no stranger to eco causes. Last year KENZO worked with the Blue Marine Foundation on a collection called ‘No Fish, No Nothing’ to raise awareness for fish prevention. Now Adidas has also cast its net to raise awareness about oceanic ecosystems. In partnership with environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans, the brand has developed sneakers that are made almost entirely out of recycled ocean plastic.

Designed by Adidas’ Alexander Taylor, the shoes feature a white and blue woven upper crafted from yarn made out of discarded fishing nets and debris. While they’re just a prototype at this stage, Adidas has hinted at similar products, to be released later this year. As part of their partnership with Parley for the Oceans they’re also phasing out plastic bags in their stores worldwide.
