Your Bathroom Deserves Craig & Karl Designer Toilet Paper

They've worked with Apple and Vogue Japan, and now they turn their sights to ethical toilet paper.

Can toilet paper be a design object? Melbourne-based socially conscious company Who Gives A Crap think so. The ethical toilet paper brand has just released a new range of paper produced in colourful collaboration with international design studio Craig & Karl.

Collaborating with Craig & Karl—whose clients include Nike, Apple, Sephora, Vogue Japan and New York Magazine—has been a long-held company goal. The prolific design duo have exhibited work around the world, including at the Musée de la Publicité in Paris, the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens the Museum for Contemporary Art in Mexico, and the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. Their designs for Who Gives A Crap display their signature bold colour palette, a little reminiscent of ‘70s wallpaper or, perhaps more appropriately, bathroom tiles.

“We love Craig & Karl's style and have dreamed of working with them since we first got started,” CEO Simon Griffiths tells The Creators Project. “We’re constantly keeping an eye out for talented creatives out there, both in Australia and around the world, and further ways to use creativity as a means to get important social and environmental messages to people.” Previously, Who Gives A Crap has collaborated with Melbourne designer Beci Orpin.

Who Gives A Crap’s toilet paper is 100% forest friendly, with no inks, dyes, or scents. Plus, 50% of their profits go towards improving sanitation in the developing world. Obviously the fun wrapping paper is a big part of it too. “We like taking a utilitarian product like toilet paper and turning it into something that's unique and aesthetically appealing—we want people to take their toilet rolls out of the cupboard and put them on display,” Griffiths says.

The ultimate dream? “A collaboration that sees our toilet paper in MOMA.”

The Craig & Karl rolls are available exclusively at Who Gives A Crap. You can find out more about Craig & Karl here.
