You’ll need shades and your raincoat for Leigh Sachwitz’s latest 360-degree interactive multimedia installation. The piece, INSIDE OUT, brings viewers through three and a half minutes of extreme weather, from dazzling rain drops to monsoon-style torrential downpours. Sachwitz uses a transparent house lit with LEDs within the installation, acting as a sanctuary to hide from illuminated versions of nature’s extreme elements.

By activating a lightbulb Sachwitz lets us experience the harsh sound of the rain drumming on the roof of the safe haven. As the walls of the house disappear into the moonlight and the storm reaches its peak the weather begins to clear, creating a sense of relief and calm within the installation. The sounds, composed by award-winning musician and producer Andi Toma, a founding member of Mouse on Mars adds hugely to the believability of Sachwitz’s project.

Sachwitz's installation is featured in this year's Triennale Der Photographie exhibition in Hamburg, presenting diverse photographic techniques and styles with lectures, conferences, and portfolio reviews. INSIDE OUT had an impressive 6,000 viewers in its first week on display. The installation will travel to Munich, Vienna, and Amsterdam later this summer.
