"Hello, I Like You" Is As Simple And Sweet As It Sounds

This animated video reminds us to appreciate the small pleasures in life.

Hello, I Like You from Mixtape Club on Vimeo.

If you had just two minutes to depict happiness, what would you show? If you worked alongside Chris Smith, Michelle Higa and Jesse Casey of Mixtape Club, you’d have faced that very challenge. The group was asked by the F5 Creativity Festival, which celebrates the overlapping fields of art, design, and entertainment, to create a short film about happiness, and the video embedded above is what they came up with. Its title heads straight to the point: “Hello, I Like You.”

On their Vimeo page, Mixtape Club says that this conceptual video “serves up a creamy shot of artistic espresso.” It sure does give us pure energy: plenty of dreamy nature shots, cascades of light, and twirling ropes build up to a crescendo of spinning bolts and twirling leaves. The abstracted footage of such everyday scenery reminds us to take a closer look at our surroundings. Music and sound company Huma Huma set the short to a score the filmmakers call “a gentle eardrum massage.”

Mixtape Club are no strangers to visual delights. Their animation skills have brightened up videos for clients both corporate (Starbucks and Google) and musical (bands like Yeasayer, TV On The Radio, and Passion Pit). Although they say:

at the end of this video, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing them soon.
