Jamie Lidell Controls A Stunning Projection Mapped Cube Using A Mic Stand

The Warp Records singer’s new music features visuals by Flat-e.

Jamie Lidell’s latest music video for track “You Naked” sees him singing inside a projection-mapped cube, courtesy of London-based collective Flat-e. Rather than just being projected onto just a wall, Flat-e have created an audiovisual environment for Lidell to perform in, an environment which reacts to his music in real-time.

Wearing a reflective mackintosh, Lidell controls the cube using a glowing mic stand—by moving it one way the visuals follow correspondingly, so it acts like a giant joystick for this projection-mapped feast. And, because it looks so good, this reactive structure isn’t just going to br featured in this music video, but will be going on tour with him too. So you get to witness this chromatic cage in all its glory.

Here’s what Flat-e says about it:

The realtime projected graphics are inspired by dazzle patterns, optical illusions and neon disco lights. They are controlled by an illuminated motion-control mic and stand, and are mapped to different bands of the frequency spectrum creating a sound reactive environment.
