We’re all ears when internet troubadour Kutiman releases a new vid and his latest effort doesn’t disappoint. Instead of remixing found footage fished from the midsts of YouTube, as is often his style, he took to the streets of his native Jerusalem to sample from the Olympic-sized pool of talent there. Wandering the roads with his camera, he filmed a bunch of musicians playing some unusual instruments and then edited it all together, as is his way, and came up with the collage above. It has a world music type vibe as it drifts through various styles—there’s even a guy playing some drain pipes—in this audiovisual ode to this holiest of holy cities, commissioned for the Jerusalem Season of Culture.And if you’re wondering when Kutiman’s going to get back to mashups, later this month he’ll be releasing a video for Mediterranean-rock-surfers Boom Pam, where he filmed the lead singer then built the video up, frame by frame, while projecting images onto the footage and re-filming it to create a psychedelic mind-melter. And in July, he’ll be back to his old found footage tricks, creating a user generated video cover of Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog". Trolling through dozens of unrelated YouTube clips of people covering the Led Zep classic, he’ll stitch them all together to create a rocking and rolling mashup. Get those devil signs at the ready.
