Viral Style: All Terrain Skateboards And Punk Goes GIF

Scouring dashboards and the URL world to bring you a selection of fashion tidbits in digestible weekly portions.

A weekly roundup of what's going on at the intersection of fashion, tech, and the web.

DESIGNER SOUNDTRACK OF THE WEEK

It’s summer, and we’re all loving it, so Missoni have decided to cash in on the seasonal vibe with a new summer soundtrack album, called M Missoni Is For Music. Curated by LAReid (chairman and CEO of Epic Records), tracks by artists like Paloma Faith, Nylo, and Kat Dahlia all feature—along with, erm, Avril Lavigne—designed to sound out your vacation with a stylish feel. Don’t be booting up your iTunes though, this is a CD-only compilation (lol)—you can only get a copy at the opening of Missoni’s new Las Vegas store this weekend, or at New York’s upcoming Super Saturday charity event. (Expect to see it dropping on eBay for ridiculous price tags shortly after.)

VIRTUAL MANSION TOUR OF THE WEEK

All you multi-millionaires out there, get September 17th in your diary, that’s when Gianni Versace’s Casa Casuarina will be going up for auction in Miami. The Versace Mansion is infamous for being both the designer’s home and the scene of his murder in 1997, and comes with ten bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and more luxe gold-detailed interiors than the Sistine Chapel (not to mention a GOLD-LINED SWIMMING POOL). Bidding will start at £16 million—but if you want to check the place out first, head here for the virtual tour.

FASHION GIFS OF THE WEEK

The fashion world is having a punk moment right now. This year’s Met Ball was even themed around it (which even spawned an Anna Wintour punk Tumblr page). Continuing the trend, photographic duo Meinke Klein have teamed up with stylist Anna Trevelyan on a new chain of high-res fashion GIFs called Riot, which works as an addition to their Punk series and as a follow-up to their popular In Bloom GIF project. Designer pieces by names like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood are juxtaposed with artworks by illustrator Magnus Dekker—the idea is all about creating a living punk poster, channelling the concepts of protest and uprising. #punkliveson

#MUSTHAVE GADGET OF THE WEEK

If you still miss all those times you used to spend hanging around the skatepark at school, now’s your chance to upgrade your teen skills to fit in with your twenty-something high-tech lifestyle. Introducing the Scarpar, the world’s first electronic skateboard that’s able to take on any terrain. First invented by Andrew Fern in 2006, the project has since gone viral online—and after several redesigns involving over 15,000 hours of engineering, is very nearly ready for commercial release with a top speed of 32mph. Time to write those Christmas wishlists!

INSANE SPORT SNEAKERS OF THE WEEK

If you’re after some high-tech kicks to give you an extra boost on your runs, adidas has developed the shoe for you. The new Springblades are packed with 16 "Energy Blades" to give you an extra bounce when you take a step, combined with a lightweight shape. They might look all futuristic, but just be careful you don't tread in dog poop while wearing them.
