Nick Berke (who’s better known by his DJ name, Pogo) has remixed plenty of familiar films, like Snow White, Up and recently, AI. Now he’s turning to the unscripted world for inspiration.Pogo’s latest endeavor is, put simply, to Remix The World. He unveiled these humble plans at the start of the year, and has successfully funded the project through Kickstarter–opting for a grassroots strategy over corporate sponsorship, as he was wary of interference. “[Those] dollars come with strings attached,” Pogo alleged on Kickstarter.Since reaching his funding goal in March, Pogo has been hard at work, but we hadn’t seen any fruits of these labors. Apparently Pogo was taking his sweet time composing and remixing:“What I don’t want to do is whip together something mediocre purely in the interest of getting something out as soon as possible,” he wrote on his Kickstarter page, updating his supporters. “‘Alice’ took a week, ‘Gardyn’ took a month, and ‘Wishery’ took just under a year. Art should never be rushed. It’s important I enjoy my time in the studio and develop a good relationship with this piece. I firmly believe one’s best work is that which is kept closest to one’s heart.”And so his first release, “Kadinchey,” which you can watch above, certainly tugs at the heartstrings. We see the sights of Bhutan join together into a harmonious swirl of sound and life: crowds stampeding, hilly landscapes, waving flags, purring kittens, dancing flames and ritual processions. Various voices are spliced and rearranged into a sing-song refrain that’s undeniably Pogo-esque–proof that this artist can adapt any language into his own.
