Broken Bells Present "After The Disco"

Starring Kate Mara and Anton Yelchin. This will get you pumped for band's upcoming album.

After a brief hiatus, indie duo Broken Bells, aka Danger Mouse's Brian Burton and James Mercer of The Shins, are back with a dreamy new film (seen above) and album due in January. To celebrate the forthcoming release of their second full-length record, After The Disco, the duo created this short film, After the Disco, Part One: Angel And The Fool, casting Star Trek's Anton Yelchin and Kate Mara of House of Cards to play star-crossed lovers in an otherworldly landscape.

Directed by Jacob Gentry and produced produced by POPfilms in conjunction with The Creators Project, the video follows Oliver (Anton Yelchin) as he slips into a parallel universe where he meets the love of his life in the form of fallen astronaut, Helen (Kate Mara). Before they can fully embrace one another, a pink, glowing starship threatens their unity.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, the band recently told The Creators Project, “When you’re younger you sort of dream of what it’s like to be in love. At some point you have to decide whether or not you wait for that to come to you.”

They also noted that the album was in many ways an homage to covers of old science fiction novels and movies that shaped their youth, and how the future we imagined as kids is far from the realities we live in today.

While Broken Bells have already teased us with an album trailer (below) that included snippets of the single “Holding On For Life,” this new video gives us a better taste of After the Disco’s atmosphere and mood.

"Part One: Angel and The Fool" sets up the story but leaves us hanging with a brutal cliff hanger. However like the rest of you, we'll just have to wait for the next installment to drop.
