Is This The World's First Robot-Created Sculpture?

A sculpture created without the use of human hands.

What is being heralded as the world’s first sculpture to be created via robotics is soon to debut at MASS MoCA, a kunsthalle-style museum dedicated to showing art of our times. The museum will be showcasing the site-specific sculpture, called Geometric Death Frequency -141, by Czech artist Fredrico Diaz from October 23, 2010 through March 2012. The monumental work is made using 420,000 black spheres put in place by robotic arms (see video above), creating a wave form that is 50ft long and 20ft high, swooping through the museum’s courtyard and onto the wall of the lobby. Read more about it at the museum’s website here.
