The hypnotic artist collective responsible for immersive artworks like the _Rain Room_ just released footage of one of their latest sculptures, _[Fragments](https://vimeo.com/185307903)_. The piece is a kinetic panel installation made up of numerous mirrored squares that register your position and follow your movements. When you stand in the front of it, sensors on each square tilt the surface of the individual panels so that they are facing the viewer. The panels move with a range of motion similar to Nonotak Studio&#x2019;s _[Narcisse V1](http://www.nonotak.com/_NARCISSE-V-1)_ installation performance. The squares only react if they register your presence, so only a partial section of the larger mirror moves, creating an unusual compound eye effect.

The reactive mirror is just one part of the collective&#x2019;s first composite exhibition, _[On the Body](http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/random-international-exhibition-rain-room)_, currently showing at the Pace Gallery in New York City. _Fragments_ sits alongside a number of [robotic sculptures and installations](http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/random-international-exhibition-rain-room) that collectively examine the relationship between humanity and machines.

Almost two hundred identical, small mirrors are arranged in a grid to form a flat, homogenous surface. Hung against the wall, the mirrors are closely spaced and apparently static; but they possess the ability to move in harmony with one another. Approaching the artwork, the individual mirrors turn together to face the onlooker, following as he or she moves. The plane of the surface distorts into varying, three-dimensional forms — perhaps a wave, or a curve, or a circle. The reflection becomes fragmented and the apparently inanimate object becomes akin to something organic and alive. A divided whole, it disperses a divided reflection. Engaging with the piece creates a physical, interrelated dialogue between human and non-human behaviour.
