The LED Op Art Of Hans Kotter

The German artist creates beautiful light sculptures that seem to go on indefinitely.

Artist Hans Kotter's light sculptures give Op Art an LED makeover, creating works that seem to disappear into a magical space behind the plexiglass that goes on forever. A futuristic rabbit hole of illusion, these tunnels of LEDs curve off into nowhere and look like they travel on infinitely.

Of course, they don't. The artist uses mirrors to create his trickery, and along with this the lights also change color so that the sculptures emit a kind of pulse and rhythm to the tune of the shifting LEDs.

"No other element influences our planet more than light." Kotter says. "Light has enchanted me because of its infinite variations and this aspect inspired me to investigate its composition and its physical contexts, the perception of colors and its cultural history. The experiences and the discoveries that derive from my investigations are then channeled into my creations."
