A Mini 3D Music Video for Every Mood

"Two-man GIF army" Looping Lovers takes the short form to a new level with hangovers, the hustle, and Drake lyrics.

When it seems like the whole world is against you, what's better than listening to a slowed-down version of the chorus from Drake's "Energy," while an army of animated 3D aliens push each other off a cliff like buffalo? Or when you're feeling like a gelatinous blob after slurping one too many frozen margaritas, watching a disturbingly detailed rendition of a slug / human hybrid slithering along to a distorted "Hangover" by Psy feat. Snoop Dogg? These relatable delights and more live on the Instagram page of Looping Lovers, a self-described, "two-man GIF army," that mashes up weirdo internet loops with the most meme-orable segments of radio bangers.

Looping Lovers is run by 25-year-old German artists Philipp Ries and Thomas Mayer, and nearly always follows the same format: Fred and Lisa, a trippy humanoid guy and gal, attempt (and usually fail) human activities like going down stairs, playing ping pong, and dancing. "The main idea was to learn more about Cinema4D, animations and social media," the duo tells The Creators Project. Since September of last year, their absurd-yet-relatable videos have grown a nearly 4,000-person-strong following that presumably really enjoys stuff like this:

"The process always looks different, thats the nice thing about it—the inspiration dont get stuck in routine. We love looping GIFs and the human body. That's the only constant in [our] process so far," they continue.

The essence of their aesthetic can be described thus: "It's a mix of bright colors, inhuman movements, confusing and funny morphing forms in everyday moods. But its more about the process and progress itself than the result and its aesthetic. Objects dont have to be rigged perfectly nor textured in high details. Its about the fun and trouble while doing it, and experimenting with software, and maybe most important having a good time with a old friend sharing the passion for just doing things, and good German hefeweizen beer."
