Paddleboarding Artist Makes Murals from the Water

Watch Sean Yoro, a.k.a. Hula, paint his new semi-submerged mural, 'Iuma.'

Oahu born artist Sean Yoro, otherwise known as Hula, has painted a serene mural from the comfort of his paddleboard.

In production company CaptureFlow's timelapse of Hula's creation of Iuma, drones capture aerial shots of his mural coming to life. The artist uses a paddle board to paint on unexpected canvases, at the edge of a body of water. The position of his canvas in relation to the water level is essential component of his compositions, as the portraits appear as though they are either rising or sinking into the water. For Iuma, Hula has set up a large wooden plank at the edge of a swamp, surrounded by nature and plants delicately lit by the early morning sun. “It was great to be able to document my mural and show the process that goes along with it, along with my past and what inspires me the most," Yoro tells The Creators Project. "I feel like it gave the murals more depth and really showed the heart behind them.”  Below, a few action shots of Yoro and CaptureFlow's timelapse of his newest work.
