Short Film Sight Gives Us A Disturbing Glimpse Into The Future of Augmented Reality‎

Embeddable contact lenses make for a world where augmented reality is inescapable.

Google glasses is only the beginning of our augmented reality future if this short film from Eran May-raz and Daniel Lazo is to be believed. Gone are those cumbersome spectacles and in their place are AR contact lenses from a dubious company called Sight Systems. These permanent fixtures allow for immersion in an entirely augmented world, so you can get your morning exercise in by lying on the floor and flying across canyons, or chop vegetables like you’re playing a video game.

Depending on how augmented you want your world, this could either be a dystopian nightmare or utopian ideal or somewhere in between, effectively turning our eyes into two computers. It’s a world where rooms are sparsely furnished, where waiters are replaced by access to the cloud, where meeting a girl is helped by a wingman dating app, and exercising is like playing Wii Fit. A world where we eat both cucumber and fried egg together in a meal.

And it’s also a world where guys are really creepy. But whether this is our future of not, it’s a beautifully directed piece of design fiction with interfaces that don’t seem too far off from what we’d have in reality.
