Viral Style: Emoji Fashion Shoots, Emoji Fashion Poems, And LED Sneakers

The week in next-level fashion.

EMOJI-BASED FASHION POEM OF THE WEEK

Unless you’ve been living under a rock/out of Wi-Fi range this past week, no doubt your feed has been jammed with some reference or another to celebrity’s newest media partnership; the marriage of Kimye. So, here’s one more;  on the big day, the Schott brand tweeted a pic of the happy couple rocking a pair of matching Perfecto motorcycle jackets on the big day – and S/O to MTV, who responded with a special Emoji-inspired poem to celebrate. If a picture says a thousand words, this means ever so much.

EMOJI-INSPIRED STYLE SHOOT OF THE WEEK

In other Emoji news, check out this new mini pic-themed editorial by i-D. Shot by Kimi Hammerstroem with artwork by Eve at the Digi Fairy, Get the Emoji Look is comprised of four images, each inspired by a particular Emoji character. The heart-eyed smiley is all about embellished makeup and Nasir Mazhar jewellery, while the crying one (pictured) is interpreted with blue hair streaks and a sloganed Markus Lupfer sweat. Shame the doughnut and shocked cat Emojis didn’t get a look-in :(

SMARTPHONE-CUSTOMISABLE GARMS OF THE WEEK

Following last week’s news about Aidas’ new miadidas feature, Japanese high street label UNIQLO have revealed their own fashion-themed app, which allows users to customise their own clothes. On UTme! you can take a photo, add text or draw your own unique design, then upload it to the UNIQLO site to be created in T-shirt form—keep it clean though guy, the brand have stated they won’t deal with NSFW images. Alternatively, if that all sounds like too much effort, you can simply shake your smartphone to apply a random graphic option.

ILLUMINATED APPAREL OF THE WEEK

With wearable tech only just starting to break into high-end designer collections (thanks to the likes of Iris Van Herpen, Christopher Raeburn, Karl Lagerfeld, et al), it’s not surprising that the majority of high street fashion hasn’t caught on quite yet. Luckily, British brand Ashish has brought an illuminating new concept to their latest collaboration collection with Topshop in the form of LED-embedded designs. Fun and playful, keep a lookout for light-up sneakers and backpacks in the new range, which has just dropped at Topshop stores.

MUST-HAVE ACCESSORY OF THE WEEK

Here’s something you never knew you wanted (but won’t be able to live without, obvs)—a new smartphone accessory that looks like it’s levitating. Created as a new Kickstarter collaboration between inventor John Stessel and American magic stores Martinka, the Magic Phone Stand looks like a normal iPhone charger, except that its reinforced structure is capable of holding your device in mid-air. The stand is also capable of charging your phone, allowing for hours and hours of colleague-confusing fun at the office.

WATERPROOF SWIM SHORTS OF THE WEEK

With summer coming, that age-old problem arises—how do I rock my cool new swim shorts without, y’know, actually having to get wet? Well, weird awkward guys who don’t like swimming, this is the product for you. Another Kickstarter project, Frank Anthony Swimwear, is currently gathering funds for their innovative new clothing design that comes with built-in hydrophobic nanotechnology, which is resistant to all water-based substances. The tech is crafted into the fabric itself, allowing for a breathable wearability while drying up to 95% faster to bog-standard polyester swim shorts. The garm can also help protect against pesky stains from coffee or juice.
