As you'd expect from a label co-founded by arch sonic-explorer Actress, London's Werkdiscs has its fare share of brainbox digi-nauts on their roster. One such boundary-pusher is the mysterious Moiré. The un-named producer seems right at home on Werkdiscs, with the artist's proggy art-techno and swung drone in perfect harmony with the label's guiding ethos of "high-street meets high-art in the club". From the producer's debut LP, Shelter, comes 'Rings', a haunting listen that's at once listless and intense, firm and nothing less than hypnotic. More surprisingly, though, every bit its equal is 'Rings's accompanying video,.The video was shot by video-artist Disguise using real-time 3D photography, a technique that Moiré feels was perfect for the task of visualising 'Rings': "The technology made it spontaneous, expressive, dramatic and revealing - 'Rings' is about focusing on details in order to understand processes, situations or another person. These visuals are like a close study of a beautiful surface, a meditation over the details to see more." Moiré and Disguise will soon be devising a similar piece for the full album, while plans are being drawn up for a collaborative live show "based on raw dynamic music and distorted, hypnotic visuals"…an opportunity, says the producer, to "explore the various themes expressed in my album further."
